Match reportsSunday 7th March
Waterloo 4 V Glebe A 2
At last after another lengthy lay off due to the on going weather conditions we finally got to play Waterloo (the team we were meant to play first game of the season).
Overnight frost was quickly burnt off by the bright sunshine and the game kicked off a little after 10.30.
With no Connor we had to shuffle the pack and further injuries to Reece & Rob this was always going to be a difficult game against a big physical team.
Waterloo pressed hard and found themselves 1-0 up at the break. A half time team talk impressed on the boys the importance of keeping it tight for the first 10mins on the second half, unfortunately this wasn't to be the case and the boys found themselves staring at a 2-0 deficit. For the middle period of the 2nd half Glebe eventually found some passing and forced their way back into the game with Carter & Calum (scoring his first goal in Glebe colours) bringing the game level. Waterloo were not to be outdone and after a great strike from their midfield general and a further mistake from the usually reliable Glebe No1 Waterloo ran out 4-2 winners.

League Cup Semi Final Result
Glebe A 0 Moonshot 1
With my able assistant back from his stint out in Bangalore I was reasonably confident that the boys in red & black could secure a victory today and stake their place in this years league cup final. How cruel the game of football can be at times. Glebe dominated large periods of the game and passed with great precision. Each member of the team playing to an ability way beyond his years. Glebe pressed hard for a goal playing most of the second half with 3 up front.
If a game were to be won on pure footballing ability then these lads would of won hands down.
Lets not take anything away from Moonshot who played their part in a very hard fought game.
With only a few minutes to spare they hit a long ball for the striker to latch on to.
Sunday 7th February
Well after nearly 8 weeks without a competitive game of football the boys in red & black were back in league cup 1/4 final action. Fitness was never going to be an issue with the whole squad doing some form of school sport. What did concern me was the fact that the team as a whole hadn't trained together for a number of weeks. Still I'm sure it was the same for most other teams. Todays opponents were Wickham Wanderers who gave us a very tough league fixture back in November. Glebe struggled with their usual slick passing game for long periods of the 1st half, however the last 10 mins saw some great interchange between defence, midfield and forwards. Glebe found themselves 1-0 up at the break.WW were not to lay down and came back very strong in the second half. A free kick some 30 yards out saw the ball dropped into the Glebe 6 yard box for the WW striker to slot home from close range. Extra time loomed and Im sure the boys really enjoyed the fact that they had another 20 mins of football having been without it for such a long time. WW pushed on and found what they hoped was going to be the winning goal. At 2-1 with only a few minutes of extra time left, step up captain marvel. Connor pulls his team back into the tie and the lottery that is penalties.
A lot of credit has to go to WW today for the way they never gave up and hassled us for every ball. We wish them well for the rest of their season.
Goals Connor = 2
Penalties
Carter = 1
George M = X
Alfie = 1

Well done to all the boys today, we will need to train hard this coming week to prepare ourselves for this coming Sundays semi final V Moonshot.
Special mention to OUR CAPTAIN this week who played out of his skin to grab both goals and seal the victory with the last penalty.
Sunday 13th December
After 2 weeks of games being cancelled due to the heavy rain we were pleased to get this game on.
The pitch at KCCC was beautiful, respect barriers in place, referee turned up, everything was set for a glorious afternoon of junior football.
Virtually a full strength Glebe side with the omission of Robbie (squash duty) got the game underway attacking the road end.
It was clear that Warlingham were up for it from the whistle and battled hard for every ball. The boys in Red & Black found their passing range and were soon into their stride.
Simon unleashed a shot from the right wing that found its way into the bottom left hand corner (this will stand out as one of the goals of the season).
Glebe went into half time 1 goal to the good. The usual half time refreshments were taken onboard and Warlingham got the game under way in the second half.
Alfie doubled the advantage after only 3 minutes into the second half stabbing the ball home from close range.
Warlingham were clearly not giving up and some very vocal support from their supporters was clearly working. A long ball over the top saw the striker with only the goalkeeper to beat the ball was coolly dispatched.
Glebe were not done and after a fine cross from Oli the ball was set back in to the near post for Alfie to score a rare headed goal.
Final score Glebe 3 Warlingham Colts 1
Special mention today for Calum who had a fantastic debut, Oliver who stepped into Robbies favoured position and provided cross after cross for the strikers, Simon for his wonder goal and lastly to the referee who I thought had a very composed game in the face of some heavy criticism.
Id like to finish by wishing all the boys & their families a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
22nd Nov
Melwood 2 V Glebe A 3
(league cup 3rd round)
Some of the worst conditions I've seen for football. Still the game was played and the pitch just about held out. We even managed to get 10mins of sunshine during a very sloppy display by the boys in Red & Black.
Melwood found themselves a goal up after a deadlocked 1st half. Sure enough Glebe came back with an immediate response. Lack of concentration at the back and not enough pace to keep up with the Melwood striker found the home team 2-1 up midway through the second half. Step up captain marvel who as we've seen before, goes on a mazy run and strikes a powerful shot from outside the 18yd area only for the Melwood keeper to fumble, the ball just dribbling over the line. With 10mins to go nobody wanted extra time and possibly pens. Mr Dependable broke Melwood hearts with a strong run down the left wing beating 2-3 players before finishing coolly in the top right.
Well done boys on a day when the English weather was at it very worst you managed to grind out a result
15th Nov
Glebe A V Wickham Wanderers
10.00am K/O
We were all expecting the call this morning to tell us that this game would be cancelled with the amount of rain that fell on Saturday. However, 12 young men took to a very sticky pitch, albeit an extremely large pitch. Glebe found it difficult to get their usual passing game going, whilst WW battled hard for every ball.
It was no surprise to see WW go 1-0 up as they seemed the hungrier team. This gave the lads a bit of a wake up call and we soon found ourselves back in the game. With only minutes remaining on the clock, the goal machine that is Steven popped up to seal a very narrow victory for the boys in Red & Black. WW should be proud of their achievements today and were unlucky not to have forced a draw. Their league position doesn't do them justice.
