Folkestone Invicta 5 1 Glebe (League Cup)
The teams second outing in the Kent competition set up an away game (almost in France) against a strong Folkestone side that had registered a 9-0 league win the previous week. So we all left the sunshine of SE London behind and swapped it for the miserable light rain/drizzle of Folkestone. The boys were clearly up for the game having worked on the high ball in the week that wasnt going to be a problem again, a long warm up from Simon meant the boys should be well prepared for the game. Come the start of the match several parents were missing trying to shelter in nearby Morrisons.
Both sides started brightly and while Folkestone are a good team they didnt look like to inflict another high scoring defeat on this opposition. However Glebe fell behind after 15 mins to a smartly taken goal. But equally Glebe had a number of opportunities but other than a smartly taken chance by Grant they never really tested a keeper that in our opinion looked like he would struggle with anything away from his body unfortunately most of the teams shooting through the game saw him as the target not the gaps around him! The defence looked more solid with the return of James to centre half alongside Antwon with Callum moved in to right midfield, even so at half time the team was 3-1 down with Folkestone second goal a cracking effort from their main striker (credit where credit is due).
Two further goals in the second half from Folkestone really emphasised the gap in performances on the day. Da boss was not happy with the display and apart from a couple of players most did not perform as they can and were punished accordingly this league is a step up from last year and this needs to be recognised throughout.
It is also a fantastic opportunity to play at the highest level available to their age group outside the academies and it needs to be grasped accordingly (not than any one will read this). Im sure that as the new players bed in the blend will improve and it is only the start of the season but the team is now out of the League cup , leaving the League and London Cup to concentrate on. They will play better and the results will improve.

Slade Green 4 1 Glebe (League)
The teams first fixture in the Kent League following the departure from the Tandridge league A division was a disappointing result on the back of a reasonably good performance so a double disappointment. The squad has had some changes over the summer and is still settling down as da boss tries to find his best formation/positions. New faces, Johnny, Alex, Harry and Rhyss joined the core of last years team.
The starting line-up had the tested Ashley and Grant as a twin strike force supported by Johnny, Micah, AJ and James underpinned by the back five of Harry, Max, Callum, Antwon & Dan. It was all different from last year with designated technical areas, fixed KO times, changing rooms etc, so proper football. The first half saw the team fall behind to a smartly taken goal which was probably against the run of play at that point, with Glebe having started well with a lot of movement down the flanks prompted by some effective passing AJ. Following the setback the side set about regaining the ground lost & while Slade Green were offering a good challenge the first half seemed to belong to Glebe. Unfortunately only 1 chance was taken in a half that saw at least 7 opportunities missed.
The second half started as the first had ended by Slade Green started to come back into the game more. A series of long defensive clearances took advantage of the prevailing wind and the defence never really came close to dealing with the high ball effectively. As a result Slades better finishing on the day saw the boys fall behind again followed by two later goals to end with a 4-1 defeat. On balance a draw would have been fairer and with Glebe eyes in a 5-4 to Glebe would have reflected the balance of play.
Overall a disappointing result but encouraging signs from the side with something for Simon & the coaches to build upon.
