LEAGUE CUP QUARTER FINAL.
GLEBE 0 LONG LANE 1
They say lightning does not strike twice but it did at Bellingham today, as we lost our 1st game in 80 minutes this season against Long Lane who had earlier beat us on penalties in the London cup QF. We went into this game knowing the earlier defeat was an injustice and were determined to not let it happen again, we were dominating the early possession and with a bit more luck and abit more composure should have been ahead in those early stages.
We knew what to expect from Long Lane a very commited side who can play but also like the physical side of football, though fairly i must add, and rely on the pace of there front men. So our encounters get the players managers and parents very vocal with a lively atmosphere.
Once we match them physically i rely on our superior ability to win us the game and although the boys count themselves unlucky we cannot use that as an excuse and really only have ourselves to blame for not finishing the game off. I must say the Long Lane goal that came in the 50th minute of a 40 minute half was a blow, when what seemed like an attempted 50/50 tackle flew straight in from 40 yards.
The boys gave everything in the 2nd half but it wasnt to be and although we all trudged off very dejected and its taken me 24 hrs to muster the strength to write this report we still have so much to play for this season. We must galvanise and you lads go on and win your last 3 league games this season for the title, show me what you are made of. I know your the best team in the A division but you have to prove it and I am confident you will. Then win the shield.
Some very good performances today must i must single out Frankie for his non-stop effort and desire he really gave every drop today and run himself into the ground for the team. So the show goes on chins up everyone we all have to lose sometime ;-(
JUNIOR RED VALLIANTS 0 GLEBE 5
A very good performance saw Glebe go back to the top of the table, we went into the game knowing we had to win our last 4 league games for the title and started out in determined fashion. We were kicking downhill and putting non-stop pressure on Junior reds but some good goalkeeping and the woodwork kept us at bay, we kept playing football and never panicked but Junior reds thought they had weathered the storm when they reached h/t at 0-0.
The beauty of managing this bunch of boys is you know we are always going to create chances so i was calm going into the 2nd half kicking uphill, it took another 15 minutes of pressure but a quality move was finished off at close range by Sonny, Junior reds resistance then evaporated, Gino hit a 30 yard free kick like a rocket against the bar before Josh scored twice with 2 clinical finishes.
Sonny showed persistance when he added a fourth before Dean who came off the bench and looked really sharp smashed in a fifth, the whistle saved Reds from a bigger defeat and we move on to the league cup quarters next week.
Keep up the work rate boys and the and the ability with come through.

SPRINGFIELD 1 GLEBE 2
Glebe progressed through to the Selkent cup QF with a narrow win over Division B side Springfield, we never really got out of 2nd gear in the 1st half though we did control the game, but lacked the urgency which was either through the lack of games or maybe expecting to cruise into the next round, half-time came 0-0.
We made some changes at h/t to give everyone a good run-out and it was Cameron who came on and put us in front with a neat header from a corner, we should of killed then off after that but got done on the break and Springfield equalised, this really gave them some belief and for a short time we came under pressure, but to the boys credit they dug deep and george scored to put us back infront.
We saw the game out without much fuss but will need to raise our game for the coming weeks, we remain unbeaten in 80 minutes for the season, so well done boys.

GLEBE 1 DARTFORD 1
Glebe went into this game without 3 key players including our goalie,
so after a big re-shuffle we started our 1st game in 3 wks a little
apprehensive. Although not at our best it was against the run of play
that Dartford scored which looked an offside goal.
It didn't faze us to much as it's become customary to give our
opponents a gift before we get going, and after all it is festive
season.
But 10 minutes later after we had missed a penalty, hit the woodwork
and then seen some glorious chances go begging, I wasn't feeling
exactly like Santa.
Half time came and we still trailed by 1 goal but we had been here
before and we knew we had enough about us to comeback.
The second half was one way traffic and I stood there confident a goal
was just around the corner, but when the not so prolific Rory hit a
dipping volley that the ( third choice goalie as Sonny had put the
other 2 out of action with I must say fair challenges), tipped onto
the underside of the bar I began to think it wasn't our day.
But as always the boys kept going and Sonny finally got the equaliser,
then with minutes to go Sonny was put clean through, but once again
the Dartford linesmans flag was raised for offside against whom was a
mystery, he obviuosly wasn't in such a festive mood, or perhaps was
just playing the part of Scrooge ?.
Anyhow we remain top of the league and unbeaten, but now have a big
fight on our hands to stay there in the new year.
Well done boys and a merry Xmas to all my players and parents and
supporters.

LONG LANE 0 GLEBE 0
Long lane win 5-4 on penalties.
Football can be a cruel game sometimes, and none more so than todays
London cup QF. A game which we mostly dominated but somehow couldn't
find the net, and with Denzel not having a save to make it was only
going to be penalties that would be Long lanes only hope.
Penalties are a lottery, well done to the boys who stepped up and took
them, and everyone for another solid performance, lets not let this
disappointment derail what we want to achieve this season, our main
priority being the league, back to the bread and butter next week and
put today behind us.
With a few boys away this week and some carrying injuries we looked
very solid, some excellent individual performances, Cameron and Adam
the pick of the bunch.
Well played lads and hard luck. Wayne
REACHOUT FC 3 GLEBE 3
Glebe produced their worst display of the season in this 3-3 draw at Charlton park. We started slowly and only showed glimpses of our current form, and we will view this as a point dropped. We got the opening goal midway through the first half when Sonny finished well from Adams pass, we then created a couple of chances but only went in at H/T 1-0 up.
The second half was full of incident which included our most dismal defensive effort i have yet witnessed, from a long throw we allowed the ball to bounce in our 6 yard box was headed goalwards Denzel clawed it onto the post and we seemed to get away with it, but we reacted slowly and the ball was prodded goalwards which we then stopped on the line but didnt clear and the Reachout player had a early xmas present 1-1.
It kicked us into gear and Gino was put clear and made the finish look easy and we were back in front, but not for long. A dubious free-kick was given on the halfway line and from the long punt the defence left the ball after hearing a keepers call but the forward got there first and headed home 2-2.
We were then reduced to 10 men after a penalty box flair-up, but showed tremendous character in going back ahead again when Sonny lifted the ball over the oncoming keeper. It was surely the points with just 10 min left, but to be fair to Reachout they are a big strong quick side and continued upto the last minute, when the right winger was allowed to get his cross in and they attacked the ball which we didnt and another header made it 3-3.
The game ended and we were all abit flat and disappointed with the result and performance, we must realise that no team in this division will lie down and be rolled over, you have to go out with the same attitude for every game, to be fair to the lads its the only poor performance so far, so let this be a wake-up call and get back to winning ways, and next weeks London Cup QF will be a good place to start.

GLEBE 3 LONG LANE 1
Two unbeaten sides met at Bellingham today, but it was Glebe that kept that record intact with an excellent display against a strong Long Lane team. Played on a small pitch that did not suit our usual game, it was pleasing to see the boys dig in battle and still play decent football. We started the game the better side but went behind from a headed goal from a corner. But we replied with a carbon copy goal when the excellent Gino headed home a corner. Half/time came and we knew we were the better side and our pressure would pay if we kept up the performance.
We continued to press Long Lane back and finally went ahead when George headed home at the near post from a Josh corner, we were now well on top but still had to be careful of the quick counter attack, but we got some breathing space when Josh finished off a great move with a lovely fininsh 3-1. We had a few hairy moments near the end but kept our concentration to see out an excellent win.
It was nice to see Perry make his comeback as a second half sub after breaking his wrist in a pre-season friendly, apologies to the lads that didnt get much of a run-out and a couple that did not play at all. We are a squad and its a long season so keep your chins up,as there will be chances for everyone. We meet Long Lane again in 2 weeks in the London cup quarter finals and will go into it full of confidence as this was our 8th straight win.
Excellent today keep it up. Wayne MOM Cameron

GLEBE 6 BEXLEY PUMAS 4
Glebe won through to the quarter finals of the London Cup in this 10 goal thriller. We went ahead early when Sonny finished neatly and looked to be under no pressure until a Bexley corner turned the game on its head. We struggled to contain the big Bexley forward who headed home unmarked from a corner then again met a low cross to put Bexley in front.
We responded well when Jacob scored from an excellent Josh corner then Sam drove home from outside the box to put us 3-2 at h/t. The second half started and again we allowed another header from a corner to level the scores again. We again stepped up our game and when Callum then Sonny put us 5-3 up the game should of been over. But again we didnt clear our lines and the ball bounced around inside our box and was eventually smashed in 5-4 with 6 minutes left.
Finally Callum kept his feet and composure to finish off Bexley when he netted our 6th the whistle went and the crowd had there monies worth. Thats 7 straight wins but we will need to concentrate for the full game to continue this run, and that means defending as a team.
Well done lads M.O.M Gino

DARTFORD 1 GLEBE 3
Glebe won their 5th straight league game against a physical Dartford side.
We started the game well using the wind and slope to our advantage and went close a few times before gifting Dartford the opener. We continued to press and finally got on terms when Sonny smashed home the equaliser and went into h/t at 1-1.
We now had to go looking for the win uphill and against a strong wind, but like in previous weeks the boys rolled up there sleeves and the pressure finally told when Josh put over a great free-kick and Ben headed home. Then from a corner and a scramble Ben cracked home the 3rd to give us a cushion.
We created a few more chances but the score remained unchanged and we now look forward to next weeks London cup 3rd round.
well done lads

Glebe 4 v Eltham Town 1
For the second week running we found ourselves playing Eltham Town and again we proved too strong, but again we had to do it the hard way. We started very well dominating possession and looking dangerous upfront and it was no suprise when Sonny finished neatly from Jacobs through ball. We then spurned chance after chance to go further ahead and then totally against the run of play Eltham equalised with there only effort on goal, 1-1 h/t.
I think the players were as frustrated as I was, and were determined to take all the points. It took 20 minutes of second half pressure before Sonny headed home a pin point cross from Josh, then shortly after got his hat-trick and we were 3-1 up with some breathing space.
With Sam putting in a real captains performance in midfield there was no way of an Eltham comeback, Dean put the icing on the cake late on when his blistering pace and fine finish capped a fine team display. There was still time for Denzel to pull off two fine saves to make up for an earlier mistake, we remain unbeaten and travel to Dartford next week.
Well done lads

Eltham Town 1 v Glebe 3
Another league win for the boys against a decent Eltham side but we had to dig deep for it. We came out the traps unusually slow and allowed Eltham a bit too much room to play, and we were waiting for something to happen instead of making it happen.
The pitch was very bobbly which was not easy to get much passing football going but Eltham were doing a better job than us at trying and we went behind 20 minutes in, and for 2nd week running it was a bad goal, a free-kick from just inside our half was allowed to bounce in the box and loop over Denzels head.
At least the goal made us wake up and we were behind only for 5 minutes when a determined run and a great finish from Frankie made it 1-1, I was glad to get the boys in at half-time for some harsh words and a change of formation with Dean joining Sonny up front.
The second half started and although a bit scrappy we looked lively going forward with Josh getting some joy down the right and Deans pace unsettling there defence. We got our noses in front midway through the half when josh curled a lovely free-kick into the far corner. It was now all us and we put the game to bed with a great 3rd goal, a lovely 1-2 between josh and Gino and a superb cross was met with Deans head, real quality to finish the game.
We meet Eltham again next week and I would like us to raise our game another notch, as we have some big games around the corner.

Glebe 2 v Junior Red Valiants 1
A game that looked like we were cruising somehow turned into nailbiter at Bellingham. After being put on the small pitch I expected a battle but we started really well dominating the game playing neat football, if anything overplaying at times when we were in shooting positions. But it was only a matter of time before we scored and it was a left foot pile-driver from Jacob that gave us the lead, we saw out the rest of the half in control.
The second half started and the game became a bit messy, we lost our passing rhythm and the initiative and for a 15 minute spell mid way through the half Junior Reds had the battle of the game, then some keystone cops defending gifted them the equaliser.
We then went in to the last 15 trying to get back infront and to the squads credit they showed the character and regained control, and with time running out Sonny's run down the right and driven cross was met with a great volley by Dean, the crowd erupted and I gave a massive sigh of relief.
We remain unbeaten for the season but know we must up our game for that to continue, so come on lads lets push on from here.

Bromley 0 v Glebe 2
A game totally dominated by Glebe where an 8-0 win would not of flattered us, but we still took all the points and kept another clean sheet. We had to shuffle the pack when car trouble meant three players including our goalie arrived after the kick-off but the strength in the squad shone through as we carved out chance after chance, but it took a great half volley from Jacob to break the deadlock and we went in at h/t, 1-0 up.
We continued to over-run Bromley but all the time it was 1-0 you could not feel totally safe, so it was a relief when Sonny for all his en devour got the second and wrapped the game up. The chances still came thick and fast right up to the final whistle when Jacob cracked a shot against the inside of the post.
Someone is going to take a right thumping soon, but it was good to keep another clean sheet and Denzel did not have a shot to save in the game, we are looking really strong right through-out the side with good cover in all positions.
We need to now keep up the consistency we are showing week after week in all competitions, we know after our pre-season results what we are capable of and must not let our standards drop if we want to achieve our end of season goals.

GLEBE 3 WADHAM 0
A solid performance from Glebe saw us progress into the next round of the London Cup. Both teams carved out early chances that were squandered, but as the half wore on we began to take control. But Wadham were always dangerous on the break and it took a brilliant finger tip save from Denzel to keep it 0-0 at h/t.
We came out for the 2nd half determined and we took the game to them but the Wadham keeper was having a blinder, we then changed from 4-4-2 back to a familiar 4-5-1, that along with the introduction of Jacob seemed to open up the game, and within minutes sonny slipped the ball past the keeper only to see it come back off the post but Josh was on hand to smash the ball high into the goal.
The goal now allowed us to really play some lovely attacking football, and the 2nd came when Sonny used his pace to burst through and finish superbly. We were now firing on all cylinders and Gino's 20yrd overhead bicicyle kick was cleared off the line, what an effort. Josh and Jacob were giving the full backs a torrid time, and the final goal came when Jacobs cross evaded everyone only for Gino to knock it back it and Sonny to head home 3-0.
A convincing win and one we had to work for, Denzel was there when needed and the back 4 of Frank Ben Adam and a very impressive George stood firm, all 15 boys played there part.
Well done lads, Wayne.
