MATCH REPORTSCrown and Manor v Glebe London Youth CupRound 415th January 2012GLEBE FROZEN OUT IN LONDON CUP QF Winter had arrived for the first time and doubts that this quarter final would not go ahead persisted right up to the last minute. However the frost in E17 had thawed sufficiently for a belated kick off.The Glebe starting line up against the Camden and Islington Midweek League leaders was Elliot, Cameron L, Ryan, Ted, Kieron C, Sonny, Brendan, Martin, Cameron K, Victor, and David. Subs were Dion, Trey, Kieran W, Harry and Solomon. Glebe, in their white away strip, kicked off and early indications were that this was going to be a closely fought encounter with two well matched teams. Five minutes gone and the ball had rarely strayed out of the Crown and Manor half but their opponents had remained firm in defence. In fact Glebe had not been allowed one salvo on goal. The closest they had come was a Sonny free kick into the 6 yard box which was blocked by a red Crown and Manor shirt. Fifteen minutes gone and it remained a stalemate as both teams tested and teased the opposition. Crown and Manor then collected a weak Elliot kick allowing a shot from the right that rolled past the left post. Brendan and Martin then gave David the chance to break the deadlock but he was unable to really threaten the keeper. Crown and Manor by now were finding their feet on the hard surface and twice made Elliot to get down low to gather the ball. A couple of lengthy injury stoppages meant the clock had ticked on to the 25th minute when Victor found Cameron K. He then brought a fine one handed save from the home teams keeper for a corner. Sonny swung it in and it only just failed to curl inside the far post. Harry and Trey then entered the fray. Crown and Manor were then denied by Elliot before Ted narrowly headed wide from another Sonny corner. It was becoming more evident that whoever scored the first was going to have a big say in who won this tie. As it turned out it was Crown and Manor who burst down the right and flicked the ball inside Elliots near post. 1-0 with 29 minutes on the clock. Elliot was certainly the busier keeper and was again on hand two minutes later. It was quickly followed by the sniff or two of an equaliser as Brendan shot from distance, the keeper fumbled but collected it at the second attempt. Harry then pumped in a high ball from the right wing which only just failed to find the target. Crown and Manor closed the half with a foraging run down the left and a cross followed by a shot that thankfully for the Glebe supporters went wide. HT 1-0. For the start of the second half Kieran W and Dion came on but before they could make an impact Glebe conceded an unfortunate penalty. Kieron C was just inside the box when the ball bounced up and struck his hand. The spot kick was directed to Elliots left but he guessed correctly and the deficit remained at one. The thought on the touchline was maybe this was just the spark that Glebe needed to spur them on. A Sonny corner dropped within two feet of the goal and a mad scramble to get it over the line was halted by the referees whistle for a free kick to the reds. Glebe were struggling to find any width or space through the middle as Crown and Manor were always quick with a tackle or a block and were then looking to turn defence into a nippy attack. 12 minutes gone in the half and again they went unchallenged down the flank and dispatched the ball into the net. 2-0. A minute later from a Glebe corner their flying number 9 took the ball from their own box and charged down the middle of the pitch leaving everyone in his wake before sealing the game. 3-0. Cameron K, Solomon and Trey had all battled vainly up front to give Glebe something to build on but could not unpick the tight defensive lock. Cameron L and Victor, followed by David and Dion, were re-introduced but by now the writing was on the Glebe wall. Crown and Manor then capped a fine display by adding a fourth with another telling run down the left backed with an accurate finish. 4-0. With a minute left Dion, closely marked, made Glebes best move down the left with a surging run that ended with him sprawled inside the box. The ref pointed to the spot and Ted duly converted for the consolation goal. 4-1. Seconds later the final whistle went and Crown and Manor were into the semi final. FT 4-1.To me this was the most disappointing Glebe display of the season. Last week they were guilty of being complacent against VCD Athletic but with a late second half wake up call had managed to scrape a win. This week they were unable to produce their form and find themselves out of the London Cup. Good luck to a Crown and Manor side that look more than capable of going all the way in this competition. This match report is compiled from the notes I made at the game. The views and comments are not necessarily those of Glebe FC.Glebe v Tunbridge Wells Foresters Geerings Challenge Cup Semi Final18th December 2011Glebe in Top Geer for semi final winGlebe lined up against a Tonbridge Wells Foresters team sitting on top of the Kent Central league with a starting XI of Elliot, Kieron C, Cameron L, Dion, Ted, Sonny, Brendan, Martin, Cameron K, Harry, and Trey. Subs were Ryan, David, Victor, Kieran W and Solomon. Glebe, playing from right to left, kicked off in cold and overcast conditions in front of their family, friends, a sprinkling of club coaches and a Kent Youth League official. Brendan had the first shot at goal after 3 minutes but could not keep the ball on target. The Foresters then forced Elliot down low with an attempt across the goal. Harry attacked down the right and was only thwarted by a last gasp tackle. Glebe were clearly winning the game on possession but the Foresters gradually came into the game and were causing the Glebe defence and midfield no end of problems. Victor and David came on while Trey and Harry took a deserved rest. The remaining minutes of the half had Sonnys name stamped all over it. On 28 minutes Victor passed inside to Sonny who launched one towards the goal but the ball refused to dip under the crossbar. Two minutes later Glebes dominance paid off. Sonny lifted a free kick on the right into the six yard box and Ted deftly headed in. 1-0. It was the catalyst that sparked Glebe into taking a real grip of the game. Three minutes after the opener Glebe were awarded a free kick just left of centre outside the penalty box. Sonny lined it up and the Foresters, like us all, expected a right foot curler over the top and placed the wall accordingly. However Sonny fooled everyone as he hit it right footed straight and low inside the left post giving the keeper no chance. 2-0. Undeterred the Foresters kept up the attack and the Glebe fans were hoping for the half time whistle to preserve the 2 goal lead. But with six minutes of added time on the clock Sonny catapulted a throw in from the left. Brendan, with his back to goal, headed it past the keeper and into the top right corner. 3-0. There was just enough time for Brendan to go off for a knock he took in scoring, to be replaced by Kieran W, and for Tonbridge to take the restart. HT 3-0. The first ten minutes of the second half was a virtual stalemate as the game went from end to end but no one was able to nail the final ball. Dion gave way for Ryan who slotted in seamlessly. Solomon came on and soon had the Foresters defence on red alert. Tunbridge knew the next goal was important and piled the pressure on Glebe but Cameron, Ted, Ryan, Kieran C and Elliot were proving tough nuts to crack. At the other end Solomon was causing the Foresters defence havoc but could not make his final ball count. A revitalised Harry came back on for the impressive David. Sonny had a decent effort parried out for a corner by the Tunbridge keeper which Harry put in and Sonny had a shot blocked for another corner. This time Harry knocked it in and Kieron C drove the ball and to his delight, but to the dismay of the keeper, it took a wicked deflection and went in for Glebes fourth. 4-0. Brendan, who again had played a superb captains role, was subbed for Cam K. Tunbridge never lost their spirit or determination and had the better chances for the last ten minutes. However Glebe, for the second week, kept a clean sheet with guts and an abundance of skill. FT 4-0. This was an impressive win by Glebe who face Long Lane (Kent North) in the final on 1st March 2012. The end of term Glebe report reads P13 W11 D1 L1 F63 A16. The stats look pretty sick and not too shabby. Parents if the last sentence makes no sense then please ask your boys! Next its VCD Athletic in the league on 8th January.Good luck to the boys for 2012. Parkwood Rangers v Glebe London Youth CupRound 311th December 2011GLEBE LONDON CUP GOAL GLUT The starting line up against the Selkent A League opposition was Elliot, Cameron L, Dion, Ted, Martin, Kieran W, Sonny, Harry, Cameron K, Victor, and Solomon. Subs were Kieran C, Ryan, Trey, Brendan and David. Glebe kicked off shortly after 10am with grey skies overhead and a biting chill wind blowing through even the warmest spectators clothes on the touchlines. The conditions certainly affected the boys on the pitch in the first half as they struggled to produce their best form. Something special was needed to warm the hearts of the Glebe contingent and Dion certainly did that. Seven minutes gone and a Harry corner on the right found its way to Dion stationed just outside the right side of the Rangers area. Bang! As sweet a shot into the top right of the upright as you could ever wish to see. It was certainly the highlight of a first half that saw the boys in red really struggle to put two passes together. In defence Glebe held firm but with 11 minutes gone were grateful that a goal bound shot was blocked by another Rangers player. Harry and Woodsy both had shots just miss the target in the first quarter of an hour. Dion tried a floating shot that almost brought him goal number 2. Kieran C came on for Woodsy and Trey replaced Solomon. Dion again pushing on had a low shot go across the Parkwood goal and the incoming Victor just failed to connect with his sliding right foot. Brendan replaced Cameron K and was soon involved in the action with a back header towards goal saved from a Sonny cross. David came on for Harry. Just before half time Martin ran at the Rangers defence and only just failed to double the lead. HT 0-1. Could Parkwood get an early second half goal that would give Glebe something to really think about? Ryan started and Woodsy was brought back on by Kiril as he looked to change the set up. It turned out to be a master stroke as Glebe looked a different team. Woodsy tested the keeper early on and within 5 minutes Glebe were two up. Sonny put the ball over the rangers defence and Trey out paced them all as he chased and met the ball before he calmly netted. 0-2. Within seconds both players produced a replica and Glebe were 0-3. Three minutes later and Trey had a deserved hat trick and the loud adulation from his mum and the rest of the Glebe followers. David and Trey swapped a series of passes on the right which set up Trey to drill the ball home. 0-4. Again the Glebe defensive unit was outstanding but special mention should go to Ted for two superbly timed tackles in the game that had, And where do you think youre going with that ball? written all over them. Glebes fifth goal followed a bizarre hand ball in the penalty box. Woodsy was just about to head the ball when the Rangers defender deliberately threw his hand at it and the referee had no choice but to blow. Woodsy, showing no nerves, made sure from the spot kick. 0-5. He also had a hand (pardon the pun) in the next as he and Trey gave Martin the opportunity to net from just a yard. 0-6. Kiril was now able to regularly change the boys on the pitch. In fact your reporter failed miserably to note all the changes as so much was going on the pitch at this stage. Solomon and Cameron K came back on and both went close within minutes of being reintroduced. A Sonny free kick was held at the second attempt and David was only denied by a great one handed save from the Rangers keeper. Ted popped up in the six yard box to head I goal number 7 and then harry topped it all off nicely with a run and shot over the keeper. FT 0-8. Glebe progress to the 4th round and face a tough away tie against Crown and Manor who sit top of the Camden and Islington midweek league. Next week though they face Tunbridge Wells Foresters for a place in the final of the Geerings Challenge Cup final against Long Lane. This match report is compiled from the notes I made at the game.
