MATCH REPORTSOur BEST showing yet, without a doubt! Andy Cowell and sidekick Tony Fergusson agreed to warm our boys up, they would be playing on the pitch adjacent, and boy did they give them a workout!Kiril (Manager of the U13 Kent side), rushed back from his own match in Maidstone to help outmanaging our side and made it minutes before KO. Myself and Rousseau completed the threesome.We were slow off our blocks and a very poor opening 5 minutes ensued.But then the boys woke up!We had changed the starting line up, as what we had done the previous 2 weeks hadn't worked.Many of the boys felt they were playing out of position. Oliver B our captain was now playingdefense, but did really well here, whilst Tete played in his positionand didn't dissappoint. An early goal from Ashford was countered by three more from our boys before half time. Connor scoring two and Zaki one, Tete assisting in two. Oliver S was tried up front , but really didn't take to this. Dario went out after 10 with a strain, Sean replacing him, again only for 1/2 hour. Quincy seemed to find more to his liking what was going on on the adjacent pitch. You need to concentratemore! Malachi was strong in defense and was started, but the 3 Tigers could only play 1/2 an hour each as they had already played a full match in the morning. Mathew made his debut, and proved himself a great signing, countering every thing thrown at him.Round two and Ashford came back at us, after stiff words from their coach, getting a goal back.Oliver S managed to injure his wrist and Tete came off with serious cramp, Tyrone replacing for his 1/2 hour stint. Dario made it back on and with the bit between his teeth did not disappoint this time.The boys began to keep the ball down and passing improved markedly. Anthony had two great chances, but was impeded by an AU player holding his shirt, unfortunately the Ref. didn't catch this.Two minutes from full time and AU made it 3-3. So as it was a Cup game it went into extra time.Malachi was back on and Connor slipped back into defense. The ensuing 10 minutes were veryclose with both sides wanting the final chance. Unfortunately this went to AU, this time 1 minute from time, as we were substituting several ofour boys, expecting a penalty shoot out. And again from a corner set play! Most of their chances had come from a lone striker, a big lad, having the ball hoofed over to him. We went away saddened this hadn'tbeen our turning point, but a good result against an academy side. More of great things to come, theTeam is beginning to bond well! PLEASE ENSURE YOUR BOYS HAVE A PASTASUPPER AND ARE EARLY TO BED ON SATURDAY They seem to be lacking in energy andconcentration every Sunday - and WE HAVE AN EARLY START THIS WEEK!GLEBE FC U 14 KENT, 1 - LONG LANE, 4 A very positive match yesterday. A goal gifted to Long Lane courtesy of the wind. A penalty to us, not given, when Quincy was taken down in the 6 yard box. A wonder strike from Anthony. There was much to write home about. AND Long Lane thought we played VERY WELL! Not bad for a team that has only been together a month now!! We should be called the U14 Kent Phoenixes! A truer result would have been 2-2! Oliver B. Showed why he's the captain. And Tete and Malachi were magnificent in defense Our match day manager had a family emergency so I had to take responsibility. There's a first time for every one! I think our boys handled this well and responded in a comfortable manner. Oliver B showed that the choice of Captain was right. Energy levels may have seemed low in the second half, but LL came with a squad of 16 and we only had 11 and no Subs. A very positive day against probably the best team in the League!
