Westerham Wolves 2 Glebe Tigers 7 (18th Dec 2011)
TEAM - Louis , Frankie, Joseph, Lucas, Matt, Matteo, Alex
Manager - Steve Mackenzie.
Scorers - Lucas 3 , Matt 2 , Louis 1, Ben / own goal 1
On a very cold wintry morning we travelled to Westerham for our last game before the xmas break . What a christmas cracker of game it was !
The first half was so incident packed , that there are too many things to mention. Highlights of the first half were some excellent passes from the team, courageous tackling from Ben
Nearly our first headed goal from a corner by Matt, superb goal keeping by the Wolves keeper, and an excellent first half Hatrick from Lucas, and a penalty scored by Louis.
All this took us into the half time break 5 - 0 up!
In the second half we mixed things up and put our defenders into attack , and our attackers into defence ! This led to much confusion especially in defence as both Matt and Lucas continued
To go forward (Panto season had started early !)which did lead to a few holes in defence which the wolves did exploit and managed to score 2 goals . This could have been worse were it not for a finger tip save by Alex which saw
The ball hit the post !!!! Anyway the defence finally sorted itself out , and we finished the half really strongly with Matt getting another goal and Ben having a strike on goal that was diverted
In by a Wolves defender . We will need to go to the goals panel to decide if Ben can claim it !!!
The match was a joy to watch and all credit to the boys for a fantastic performance . Well done
AC Paulista 4 Glebe Tigers 4 (13th Nov 2011)
TEAM - Louis , Frankie, Joseph, Thomas ,Lucas, Matt, Matteo, Alex
Manager - Steve Mackenzie.
Scorers - Louis 1 ,Matteo 1,Joseph 1, Lucas 1
A very incident packed , end to end game saw our first draw of the season. It just goes to show you cannot take previous results as a guideline at this level .
We started the match very positively and it wasn't long before Lucas put us 1-0 up , following a mix up in their defence. However as half time approached having not looked under pressure all half
AC scored to make it 1-1 and then virtually from the re-start a hopeful through ball into our penalty area saw a collision which ended up given as a penalty . AC scored from the spot, and we were
Now 2-1 down. There was just enough time for us to go back up the field, and from a long Alex throw Matt and Matteo caused havoc in the AC defence with Matteo getting the final touch to
Level right on the stroke of half time. Half Time 2-2.
At half time Joseph came on as sub , and slotted in at the back . We started to pass the ball better in the second half, and Alex started to dominate the midfield battle , winning several headers
And putting in some good tackles. Alex also had a really good effort on goal which looked in, all the way, until it crashed off the cross bar and bounced down . was it in , was it not ? clearly we thought it was and AC thought not ! Goal line technology at U8 level , there's a thought... So with the goal not given we continued to press , although we did look a bit shaky at the back , and were it not for a
Goal line clearance from Matteo we would have been behind again .
Then up stepped Joseph from the back, picked up a loose ball following a poor clearance and let fly with a left foot shot , which sailed into the top corner. Glebe 3-2 up and Joseph breaks his Duck
With his first goal for Glebe (cracking effort). Unfortunately the lead didn't last too long with AC again coming back at us to level at 3-3.
Following quick thinking from Matt at a throw in , he released Louis down the left who then drove into their area and made no mistake with a right foot shot, Glebe back in front at 4-3. Another
Good piece of skill from Matt saw him beat a couple of players on the left then cross into the box, and Louis was inches away from scoring again .
Sadly we couldn't hold on and AC levelled the score at 4-4 with about 5 mins to go .
All in All probably a fair result . We kept going throughout and on another day the result could have been different . Well done to all , keep up the good work .
Glebe TIGERS 4 Dutch Football Academy 1 (16th Oct 2011)
TEAM Louis , Frankie, Thomas ,Lucas, Matt, Alex, Matteo , Joseph
Manager Steve Mackenzie.
Scorers Alex 2 , Matt 1, Matteo 1
The futures bright , the future is Red shirts and Black Shorts !
Another cracking display from the Tigers . The first half saw yet more enterprising play . The all-round passing game is getting better and better.
We even saw a string of passes across the back line at one point , which did bring a few gasps from the side lines .
The opening exchanges were tight with both sides trying work each other out. Then a slide rule pass from Matt found Alex in a bit of space on the edge of their box , from which he
Unleashed a thunderbolt that took everyone by surprise that hit the back of the net , Tigers 1-0 up . Soon after another could piece of play down the left between Matt and Lucas saw the ball cross over,
Which wasnt cleared properly , and Matteo was on hand to knock it in for only his second ever Goal for Glebe. 2-0.
The Dutch FA fought back with some good passages of play of their own, but every time they looked dangerous Frankie and Joseph stood firm . Louis again commanded his area and looked
Very solid . His kicking out of hand was exceptional. Half time and 2- 0 up. During the break out came what I can only describe as the Biggest box of Jaffa Cakes I have ever seen . If Norris McWhirter were still
Alive today we would walk straight into the Guinness Book of records for sure !
We started the second half very strongly and soon started to dominate. Tom was now on and putting in some very good tackles, Louis was chasing everything with much encouragement from his Dad.
Another excellent pass from Matt, saw Alex put through and following good composure thumped the ball in to make it 3-0. Our only blemish in the second defensively then saw the Dutch FA pull a
Goal back to make it 3-1.
Then followed 3 passages of play , in which, in a very short space of time Joseph , Frankie and Matt all managed to hit the Dutch FA cross bar with excellent shots. Finally following a pass from Louis into Matt
Who managed to find space Matt made sure hitting it low into the corner to make the final score , 4-1.
Well done to all the boys again for an excellent performance.
Special thanks goes to our very own Pierluigi Collina for helping out with the REF duties this week !
Selsdon Junior Lions 4 Glebe TIGERS 1 (9th Oct 2011)
TEAM Louis , Frankie, Thomas ,Lucas, Matt, Alex
Manager Steve Mackenzie.
Scorers Matt 1.
The Tigers for unfortunate that we could only field 6 players this week end , and unfortunately it told as we ran out of steam against a very organised Selsdon team
Who had 9 players to choose from and utilised them very well ! The pitch was also one the biggest we will play on
Having said that the football we played in the first half was amongst the best seen so far this year, with our passing getting better and better each week .
Louis commanded his goal area exceptionally well, making some excellent stops. The back 2 of Thomas and Frankie were also exceptional , and never gave up .
Our Midfield / attack axis of Lucas , Matt and Alex were constant threats in the first half, and following a fantastic pass by Lucas, putting Matt clear, we were soon 1-0 up.
We continued to create chances and for periods it didnt look like we only had 6 players. Selsdon however slowly got their game together and just before half time they scored
To make it 1-1.
The second half was always going to be tough after the efforts of the first half, and although we had a few chances Selsdons numerical advantage eventually took its toll .
The final score was 4-1 to Selsdon Tigers .
The boys can be very proud of the performance they put in. All of them covered every blade of grass . Well done
Nigel Adam.
Glebe TIGERS 6 AC Paulista 2 (25th Sept 2011)
TEAM Louis , Frankie, Joseph, Thomas ,Lucas, Matt, Matteo, Alex ,Ben
Manager Steve Mackenzie.
Scorers Matt 4, Louis 1 , Alex 1
Never could the words A game of two halves be more relevant for this match.
First home game of the season against AC , who we had not played before. We were at full strength for the match , with the return to the squad of Ben who missed the opening game.
The first half was a very tight affair with neither side having any real chances. Both Defences were generally on top , with Ben and Tom keeping everything secure for us at the back, and Joseph and Lucas fighting for everything.
We just couldnt find the final Pass needed to create an opening. At Half time the score was level at 0-0.
The Second half started in a very similar manor to the first , then the half time Jaffa cakes kicked in ! Matt picked up a loose ball from a poor clearance , controlled it well and sent a shot whizzing into the top corner,
1-0 . We then started to pass the ball much better, and Louis hit a belter from outside the box which sailed in , 2-0. A small defensive lapse then allowed the AC number 11 to run through own goal and slot home to make it
2-1. Shortly after we restored our 2 goal advantage with another Matt shot from the edge of the box following good battling from Matteo. Going into the last 5 mins of the game AC started to tire, and Alex took advantage
By winning the ball out on the left side, cutting back in and hitting a very sweet shot which curled over the goalie and into the net , 4-2. There was still time however for Matt to find the roof of the net on 2 more
Occasions, again with shots from outside the box, and in between these AC also managed to grab a goal following a slight defensive mix up .
This was very much a team effort with everyone getting stuck in and playing there part . Well done to all on a good victory
A special thanks to Paul F for being ref, and also to whoever bought the jaffa cakes. Can you they bring them again next week !!
Carshalton FC 1 GLEBE TIGERS 3 (18th Sept 2011)
TEAM Louis , Frankie, Joseph, Thomas ,Lucas, Matt, Matteo, Alex .
Manager Steve Mackenzie.
Scorers Matt 2, Louis 0.5 , Alex 0.5 !
Opening game of the season away to Carshalton Fc was, on paper one of the hardest games we could face. The first 10 minutes saw both sides have opportunities in what was a very
evenly fought contest. Louis in goal made some good saves and looked very solid. The defence of Joseph and Frankie held firm , both putting in very good tackles to keep their number 9
At bay. Matteo Alex and Lucas all tracking back to help, and causing problems when going forward, especially when, an Alex thunderbolt had their goalkeeper all but beaten, until he
Managed to claw it away to safety .
As the half wore on we started to press and then finally after a ball into the box broke free Matt managed to get a shot away on goal to put us 1-0 up . However straight from the resulting
Kick off the Carshalton number 9 dribbled through the middle of our defence and slotted home to make it 1-1. We kept our heads up and continued to attack , and just before half time
Matt picked up the ball on the left hand side and from along way out unleashed a superb shot which crashed into the top of the net, which restored our 2-1 lead. (HALF TIME 1-2)
In the second half Matt went in goal , and Thomas joined the fray, and Louis slotted in on the right side of midfield. The opening exchanges of the 2nd half were much the same, with
Thomas and Frankie holding firm at the back , Joseph now pushed forward, and continued his impressive tackling with Louis letting nothing get past him .
Following a good through ball , Lucas ran on into the penalty area ,cut the ball back onto his right foot, left the defender in his wake and hit a superb shot which beat the goalkeeper
and then crashed back off both the cross bar and the post . We were now starting to press more and more.
Another Alex thunderbolt looked all but in, but just strayed wide. There attacking options were very limited, as both Thomas and Frankie continued to frustrate them in defence.
Following another Lucas effort which was blocked, we got a corner which Alex took . The ball was whipped into the near post and following a challenge from Louis on their defender , the ball
Ended up in the net , 3-1 up . as I understand it both Louis and Alex are claiming the goal !! We may have to refer this to the independent Goals Committee !
The matched finished 3-1 to Glebe Tigers who put in a tremendous effort in the first game of the season .Well done to all .
